Here you can find specifications of different formats and protocols used by chess programs and particulary by Kvetka. It will be useful for chess programmers and other interested users.

Chess games description:

PGN format. Main format for representation of chess game data. It is supported by almost every chess software (Rus translation).
CBH format (incomplete). Used by the software from Chessbase (Rus translation).
SCID format (Rus. Source codes). Used by SCID chess program.
CDP format (Rus., incomplete). Used by Chess Assistant application.

Position description:

FEN format . Supported by almost every chess software and by many chess cites (Rus translation).

Opening books:

KOB format (Rus). Kvetka's own format.
BIN format. Polyglot opening book format. Used by many chess engines (Rus translation).
CTG format (incomplete). Chessbase opening book format.

Interaction between engine and GUI:

UCI protocol. The most popular protocol. Supported by many recent engines (Rus translation).
UCI-engines. The list of the most popular and the strongest UCI-engines.
List of options for Rybka 2.x and Rybka 3. For a long time this was one of the most famous and powerful engines (Rus translation).
List of options for Stockfish. This is another one of the most powerful engines. Additionally it is free (available in Russian).
List of options for Critter (Rus). This free engine competes with Stockfish for being more powerful.
List of options for Komodo. According to some ratings it recently became the strongest engine (Rus translation).
